So you want to start an E-business? Step 2
Okay you got your product ideas hopefully you have about 6 or more ideas of product to sell on your site. Next!!!! Take these product ideas and put the related keyword in to Google again and open the top three or so sites and see if your exact product is being sold there and at what price are they selling for. Write them down for each site and each product idea you have. Compare the prices from the drop shipper and the competition. This will give you an idea of your profit margin. If you find the drop ship price and the competition price are to close you may want to either look for a different drop shipper / wholesaler or just drop that product and try the next one on your list. I recommend trying to get at least a 6 to 15% profit margin The larger your initial price you pay the less of a margin you will need to get the profit amount you desire. You need to be in the high middle on the pricing. You don't want to be the highest or the lowest price out there. Your thinking should be a quality product doesn't have to be the cheapest. If you price to low your site visitors wont be so inclined to trust your reputation as an established up standing business, just a closeout discount fly by night store. The sites that last are the ones who have the appearance of class and trust. Okay? While you were looking into drop shipper you probably got their price list and where and how your going to put pictures of the product on the site and descriptions of each product as well if not go and get them. Now your getting a clearer picture of how your site is going to look. If all of your product ideas don't pass all of these tests. Sorry but time to back to step one and get more ideas. If they pass and meet all of your expectations fantastic you got an e-commerce business starting to take shape. Time to think design and color scheme for you site. Time to look for Hosting sites. Time to get a URL (Domain name). URLs should be 3 words or less. I like Go Daddy they have good prices and easily searched. Try to include your main keyword (s) in the title For example the site I am using in these articles is www.luckysilvercharms.com What do you think the site has for sale? The more you can ease the customer on remembering your site the better off your chances of them bookmarking the site and telling their friends. So please don't use obscure phrases or slang and no play on words like Bazeball for Baseball or Phat for fat Also no numbers or letters as well as the words “Store” or “my”. Look at our example we are using here. You get a clear picture I am selling, charms better yet silver charms and just for a marketing touch I added the word Lucky as in Lucky charms or good luck charms. You see all the ideas you get from the domain name are related to the product thus relating the customer back for more sales. Okay there is the cereal in there too. But It is a good cereal. Now a word or two on hosting sites cheaper is not always better it all depends on your site building skills if your a HTML FTP guru that almost any reliable hosting site will do but if your new to it find a company that offers good technical support either by phone or e-mail. There are companies that charge from 7 dollars to 45 dollars per month. Do you research find a good one that has a good reputation for not crashing and good tech support. Then come back and read the next step.
